NSW Child Restraint Laws
Like all NSW vehicles, we must comply with child restraint regulations. Here's what the law requires:
Legal Requirement: Parents Provide Child Restraints
By NSW law, parents/guardians are responsible for providing appropriate child restraints for their children.
This applies to all vehicles including taxis, rideshare, and shuttle services. We cannot legally provide child seats – you must bring your own!
Why this law exists: Child seats must be correctly fitted for the specific child's age, height, and weight. Parents know their child's needs best and are trained in proper installation.
Infants
Birth to 6 months
Required:
- Rear-facing infant capsule or convertible seat
- Must be in rear seat
- Correctly installed using seatbelt or ISOFIX
You Provide:
- Approved child restraint
- Installation (driver can assist)
Toddlers
6 months to 4 years
Required:
- Rear-facing seat until at least 6 months (recommended longer)
- Forward-facing seat with harness from ~2-4 years
- Must be in rear seat
You Provide:
- Age-appropriate child seat
- Installation
Children
4 to 7 years
Required:
- Forward-facing seat with harness OR booster seat
- Must be in rear seat
- Regular seatbelt when outgrown booster (usually 7+)
You Provide:
- Booster seat if child under 145cm tall
- Installation (simple – just sits on seat)
Children Over 7 Years
Age 7+: Can use standard adult seatbelt
However: Booster seats recommended until child is at least 145cm tall for proper seatbelt fit
Our vehicles: All equipped with standard 3-point seatbelts for children who don't need restraints

Driver Assistance with Child Seats
While you must provide child restraints, our drivers are happy to help:
- Guidance: Can show you how to use ISOFIX or seatbelt installation
- Double-Check: Verify seat is secure before departure
- Multiple Seats: Assist with installing multiple child seats if needed
- Removal: Help uninstall child seats at destination
Important: Final Installation Responsibility
While drivers assist, parents/guardians are ultimately responsible for correct installation as per NSW law. Driver ensures seat appears secure but you must confirm it meets your child's specific needs.
Baby Equipment
Strollers & Prams
Always Welcome – No Extra Charge!
Strollers, prams, and pushchairs are always accommodated at no additional cost:
- Does not count against luggage allowance
- Carried in luggage area (collapsed)
- Driver assists with loading/unloading
- Any size or type (single, double, jogger, etc.)
Tip: Collapsible strollers easiest to transport. Bulky prams still accommodated but may require larger vehicle for large families.
Other Baby Items
- Portable Cribs/Pack-n-Plays: Transported in luggage area, no extra charge
- High Chairs (Portable): Easily accommodated if collapsible
- Diaper Bags: Count as your "personal item" – always included
- Bottles/Snacks: Bring whatever you need for journey – no restrictions
What About Baby Seats (Infant Capsules)?
Traveling With Your Own Baby Seat
If you're bringing your baby's infant capsule/car seat for the journey:
- Install in our vehicle: You'll need to install it when you board
- Travel with seat: Capsule stays with you for the journey
- Driver assists: Can help with installation
- Take at destination: Uninstall and take with you
Alternative: If your baby is sitting on your lap (under 6 months, no seat belt required by law for lap infants), you can transport the capsule in luggage area as cargo.
Family Travel Tips
Make your family journey smoother with these helpful suggestions:
Allow Extra Time
Loading children, car seats, and gear takes longer than solo travel. Book pickup 10-15 minutes earlier than you would for yourself.
Pack Activity Bag
Bring quiet toys, books, tablets, or snacks to keep kids entertained during journey. Driver appreciates calm, occupied children!
Bring Essentials
Pack diapers, wipes, bottles, snacks, and change of clothes in carry-on. Don't bury essentials in checked luggage!
Comfort Items
Favorite blanket, stuffed animal, or pacifier helps anxious kids feel secure in unfamiliar vehicle.
Practice Installation
If using ISOFIX or unfamiliar with seatbelt installation, practice at home before travel day. Makes pickup much faster!
Pre-Trip Bathroom
Have children use bathroom right before departure. Our vehicles don't have toilet facilities during journey!
Communicate Needs
Tell us when booking if you have multiple children, lots of equipment, or special requirements. We'll assign appropriate vehicle.
Stay Calm
Children pick up on parent stress. Driver is patient and experienced with families – relax and enjoy the ride!
Booking for Families
How to Book with Children
When making your booking, provide this information:
- Total passengers: Include all family members (adults + children)
- Children's ages: Let us know ages of all children
- Child restraints needed: How many car seats/boosters you're bringing
- Baby equipment: Strollers, portable cribs, etc.
- Luggage amount: Family luggage plus baby gear
Choosing the Right Vehicle
Vehicle size depends on family size, luggage, and equipment:
- Family of 3-4: Sedan or SUV usually sufficient
- Family of 4-6: 7-seater van recommended (room for car seats + luggage)
- Family of 7+: 13-seater minibus for large families
- Extended family/groups: Multiple vehicles or large minibus
Remember: Car seats take up more room than adult passengers. Family of 4 with 2 car seats may need 7-seater for comfort!
Lap Infants (Under 6 Months)
Infants Not Requiring Seat
NSW law allows infants under 6 months to be held on adult's lap if:
- All other seats with seatbelts are occupied
- No suitable child restraint available
However, we strongly recommend bringing infant capsule for safety!
Booking consideration: Lap infants don't require their own seat, so passenger count = adults + children with seats (not lap infants).
Pricing for Children
- Children with seats: Count as full passengers for pricing
- Lap infants: No extra charge (don't occupy seat)
- Baby equipment: No extra charge (strollers, cribs, etc.)
- Vehicle upgrades: May need larger vehicle for big families (affects price)
Example: Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children age 2 and 5):
- Need 4 seats (all need restraints or seatbelts)
- Plus 2 car seats you provide
- Plus stroller
- Plus luggage
- → Book 7-seater van for comfort and space
Family Travel FAQs
Can you provide child seats for us?
No, by NSW law we cannot provide child restraints.
Legal reason: Parents/guardians are responsible for providing appropriate child restraints. This ensures the restraint is correct for the specific child's age, weight, and height.
This applies to:
- All taxis and rideshare services
- All shuttle and hire car services
- All private vehicles carrying children
What we DO provide: Assistance installing your child seats, ISOFIX anchor points, and patient service for families!
What if I don't have a child seat?
You must provide child restraints for children who require them by law (under 7 years, or under 145cm tall).
Options if you don't have one:
- Purchase or rent: Buy from Baby Bunting, Target, etc., or rent from baby equipment rental services
- Borrow: Ask friends/family
- Hotel loaner: Some hotels provide child seats for guests
- Postpone travel: Cannot legally transport young children without proper restraints
We cannot legally proceed without required child restraints. This is for your child's safety and our legal compliance!
Do you have ISOFIX anchor points?
Many of our newer vehicles have ISOFIX anchor points, but not all.
What to do:
- Mention when booking if you need ISOFIX
- We'll do our best to assign ISOFIX-equipped vehicle
- Cannot 100% guarantee, so bring ISOFIX-compatible seat that can also use seatbelt
Seatbelt installation works in all vehicles: All our vehicles can accommodate child seats installed via seatbelt method. Ensure your child seat supports both ISOFIX and seatbelt installation!
How much time should we allow for installing child seats?
Installation time varies by seat type and experience:
- ISOFIX seats: 2-3 minutes per seat (very quick!)
- Seatbelt infant capsule: 5-7 minutes (more complex)
- Seatbelt forward-facing: 3-5 minutes
- Booster seat: 30 seconds (just sits on seat)
For airport departures: Add 10 minutes to your usual preparation time if installing 2+ child seats. Driver arrives early and helps, but proper installation takes time!
Pro tip: Practice installation at home before travel day. Familiarity makes it much faster!
Can my child eat or drink during the journey?
Yes, children can have snacks and drinks during the journey!
Recommended:
- Water bottles or sippy cups (lidded containers)
- Dry snacks (crackers, fruit, cereal bars)
- Baby bottles for infants
Please avoid:
- Very messy foods (chocolate, ice cream, sticky candy)
- Open drinks that can spill easily
- Strong-smelling foods (drivers appreciate this!)
Cleanup: Please take wrappers and trash with you when exiting. If significant mess occurs, cleaning fees may apply ($50-100).
What if my child has a meltdown during the journey?
Our drivers are experienced with families and understand children have moments!
What drivers do:
- Remain calm and patient
- Focus on safe driving
- Can pull over safely if you need to comfort child
- Understanding of crying babies and upset toddlers
What you can do:
- Bring comfort items (stuffed animal, blanket, pacifier)
- Have snacks and entertainment ready
- Stay calm yourself – kids pick up on parent stress
- Ask driver to pull over if you need to settle child safely
Crying babies and upset children are normal! Drivers won't judge – they've seen it all. Your family's comfort and child's wellbeing come first.
Do you charge extra for children?
Pricing based on seats occupied, not age:
- Children with own seat: Count as full passenger for pricing
- Lap infants (under 6 months): No charge as they don't occupy seat
- No "child discount": Seat occupancy determines price, not age
Example pricing:
- Family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids in car seats) = 4 passenger pricing
- Couple + baby on lap = 2 passenger pricing
- Family of 5 (2 adults + 3 kids) = 5 passenger pricing
