Service Animals

Always Welcome!

Service animals are working animals, not pets. They are trained to perform specific tasks for people with disabilities and are protected by law.

  • No Advance Approval: Service animals always permitted โ€“ just mention when booking
  • No Extra Charge: Never a fee for service animals
  • Travel With Handler: Service animal stays with you in passenger cabin
  • No Carrier Required: Service animals travel unleashed at handler's feet or lap
  • Driver Cannot Refuse: Service animals legally protected

Types of Service Animals We Welcome

  • Guide Dogs: Assist blind or vision-impaired passengers
  • Hearing Dogs: Alert deaf or hearing-impaired passengers to sounds
  • Mobility Assistance Dogs: Help with wheelchair, walking stability, retrieving items

What to Tell Us When Booking

Simply mention you'll be traveling with a service animal:

  • "I'll have my guide dog with me"
  • "I'm traveling with a service animal"
  • "My assistance dog will be accompanying me"

We note this in your booking so driver is prepared. No documentation required โ€“ we trust your word!

Service Animal Etiquette

For Handlers:

  • Service animal should be well-behaved and under control
  • Inform driver if animal needs bathroom break during long journey

For Drivers:

  • Carrier Size: Must fit on floor at your feet or on your lap (not blocking aisle)
  • Driver Approval: Driver has final say (allergies, vehicle cleanliness standards)
  • Pet Behavior: Must be quiet and well-behaved (excessive barking/noise may result in refusal)
  • Health: Pet must be healthy (no signs of illness, parasites, excessive shedding)
  • Cleanliness: Pet and carrier must be clean and not emit strong odors

Carrier Specifications

  • Hard or Soft-Sided: Both acceptable if secure
  • Ventilated: Proper airflow for pet comfort and safety

How to Book

1

Call First โ€“ Don't Book Online

Call +61 427 143 612 to request pet approval BEFORE making online booking. Explain pet type, size, and journey details.

2

Get Approval Confirmation

We check driver availability and confirm if pet can be accommodated for your specific journey. Not all trips can include pets.

3

Make Booking

Once approved, complete booking by phone or online. Note will be added to booking that pet is traveling.

4

Prepare for Journey

Ensure pet is in secure carrier, clean, and comfortable. Have water available if journey over 1 hour.

5

Pickup Day

Driver arrives โ€“ you load pet carrier into vehicle. Pet stays in carrier at your feet or lap entire journey.

Important: Why Pre-Approval Is Required

We can't guarantee pet accommodation for several reasons:

  • Driver Allergies: Some drivers allergic to cats or dogs
  • Shared Shuttles: Other passengers may have allergies or fears
  • Recent Cleaning: Just-detailed vehicle may not be available for pets
  • Back-to-Back Bookings: Next passenger may have allergies
  • Vehicle Type: Some vehicles more suitable for pets than others

Pre-approval ensures we assign pet-friendly driver and vehicle for your journey!

Rules & Restrictions

What's Allowed

  • Pet in secure carrier at your feet or on lap
  • Small treats or toys to keep pet calm (non-messy)
  • Water bottle/bowl for long journeys
  • Pet blanket or pad in carrier
  • Leash (for loading/unloading carrier, but pet stays in carrier during journey)

What's NOT Allowed

Strictly Prohibited

  • Pet Out of Carrier: Pet must stay in carrier 100% of journey (except service animals)
  • Carrier on Seats: Carrier cannot sit on vehicle seats (floor or lap only)
  • Multiple Pets: Generally limited to 1 pet per passenger (multiple requires extra approval)

  • Carrier too large for vehicle

If Refused: Full refund provided, but you'll need alternative transport. Please ensure compliance with all requirements!

Pet Travel FAQs

Is my emotional support animal considered a service animal?

โ–ผ

It depends on training and task performance:

Service Animal:

  • Specifically trained to perform tasks for disabled handler
  • Examples: interrupt panic attacks, provide pressure therapy during anxiety, guide during dissociation
  • Protected by disability discrimination law
  • No carrier required, no fees, always permitted

Emotional Support Animal (ESA):

  • Provides comfort by presence but not trained for specific tasks
  • Not protected as service animal under NSW law
  • Treated as regular pet โ€“ requires carrier, approval, and $20 fee

Key Question: Does your animal perform a specific trained task related to your disability? If yes = service animal. If comfort only = ESA/pet.

Can my pet sit on my lap outside the carrier?

โ–ผ

No, pets must stay in carrier entire journey.

Reasons for this rule:

  • Safety: Sudden stops could throw pet around vehicle, causing injury
  • Driver Distraction: Loose pets can interfere with safe driving
  • Allergies: Contained in carrier reduces allergen spread
  • Vehicle Cleanliness: Prevents pet hair, scratches, accidents on seats
  • Other Passengers: In shared shuttles, others may be afraid of animals

Exception: Service animals travel uncontained at handler's feet or lap as they're working animals.

What if my pet needs a bathroom break during journey?

โ–ผ

Most journeys to/from airport are under 1 hour โ€“ pets can wait.

For longer journeys (1+ hours):

  • Mention when booking that you may need bathroom stop
  • Driver can pull over at safe location
  • You must take pet out (on leash), driver doesn't handle
  • Clean up after pet (bring bags!)
  • Brief stop (5 minutes) usually no extra charge

Prevention tips:

  • Have pet use bathroom immediately before pickup
  • Limit water 1 hour before journey
  • Line carrier with absorbent pad just in case

Accidents happen: If pet has accident in carrier, no penalty as long as carrier contained it. Cleanup fee applies if leaks into vehicle.

Can I bring my pet on a shared shuttle?

โ–ผ

Generally no โ€“ pets only permitted on private shuttle bookings.

Why private only:

  • Other passengers may have allergies
  • Some passengers afraid of animals
  • Pet sounds may disturb other travelers
  • Fairness โ€“ not all passengers signed up for pet travel

Solution: Book private shuttle for you and your pet. Cost difference usually small (especially for couples/families), and you get exclusive vehicle!

Exception: Service animals can travel on shared shuttles as they're protected by law.

What happens if my pet is noisy during the journey?

โ–ผ

We understand pets can be anxious in new environments!

Normal pet sounds:

  • Occasional whimpering, meowing
  • Brief barking when entering/exiting vehicle
  • Settling down noises at start of journey

Excessive noise:

  • Continuous loud barking entire journey
  • Aggressive growling or snarling
  • Sounds causing driver distraction/safety concern

What happens: Driver may ask you to calm pet. If impossible and affecting safety, driver may end journey early (partial refund given).

Prevention tips:

  • Familiarize pet with carrier before journey
  • Bring favorite toy or blanket
  • Consider calming treats (check with vet)
  • Practice short car trips before long journey

Do you provide water or food for pets?

โ–ผ

No, you must bring anything your pet needs.

Recommended to bring:

  • Water bottle: Collapsible bowl or water bottle with dispenser
  • Treats: Small treats for comfort (nothing messy or smelly)
  • Waste bags: In case of bathroom stop or cleanup needed
  • Towel/pad: Absorbent liner in carrier bottom
  • Favorite toy: Comfort item for anxious pets
  • Leash: For loading/unloading and bathroom stops

Feeding: Generally not recommended during journey (can cause car sickness). Feed pet before departure or after arrival.

Can I bring my pet carrier as luggage without the pet?

โ–ผ

Yes! Empty pet carriers transported as regular luggage.

  • Counts toward your luggage allowance (1 large + 1 carry-on per person)
  • No pet fee since no pet is traveling
  • Soft-sided carriers can fold for easier storage
  • Declare large hard carriers when booking to ensure space

Common scenario: Traveling to pick up new pet, or bringing carrier for pet you're collecting at destination. No problem!

See our luggage guidelines for more details.
